In 1972 the Battalion moved to Cyprus and this period saw the Battalion stationed in Salamanca Lines, Episkopi with Support Company at Dhekelia. After two years in Northern Ireland this was envisaged by some as a well deserved rest in the sun. Cyprus presented an excellent opportunity to work hard and play hard. Sport is so much more of a pleasure when the sun shines, and the Vikings excelled on the football pitch, on the ranges, on the athletics track and in the Cyprus Walkabout. Military skills were brought back up to the correct standard after the required emphasis on Internal Security during the Londonderry tour, and sun tans were honed to perfection.
