Celle has become something of a spiritual home in Germany for the Royal Anglians. The Vikings were stationed there from the end of 1965 until 1968 and again from 1978 until 1982. It was an extremely interesting experience for those who had the pleasure of both postings; different ranks, different marital status, more money, hopefully more common sense etc. The town looked the same and the pace of life was much the same, there was the hill going down into town, which was regretted on the walk back. I’ve still to find anywhere in the world where you can get a half chicken on par with that from the Halfway House.
